Timebanks

First set up in 2012, by Gloucester-based time bank Fair Shares, Stratford Time Bank is run by a community interest organisation, based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.

Thanks to funding from Orbit Housing, we employ a part-time Time Broker, Sarah Coxall, to organise the Time Bank and develop its activities across Stratford-on-Avon district. Stratford Time Bank now has nearly 250 individual members and 20 organisational members who have contributed over 6,000 hours of community and neighbourly help over the past three years.

All face-to-face exchanges and social activities are currently suspended because of the coronavirus outbreak. But our befriending scheme has expanded to enable more members to stay in tough with others by phone or e-mail, and we are also running online social get-togethers. We are still joining up new members, though offers and activities will remain limited during coronavirus lockdown.

Timebanking is a community based scheme which promotes mutual support using time as its currency.   Time banks bring the community together and reward people for the help they provide to others in their neighbourhood.  For every hour of help you give you receive 1 time credit.  1 hour = 1 time credit. You use these credits to receive the help you’d like.  You can help with whatever skills or services you would like to share with others.  Everyone has something to offer and everyone’s time is valued equally.

Time Bank members give and receive all sorts of services, such as using computers, simple repairs, ironing, baking, lifts to hospital, waiting in for a parcel, sewing, shopping and prescription collection and deliveries.
